Working in advertising it’s important to keep up with all the latest trends and fashions. With that in mind, when my friend invited me to Fashion Connect my instinct was to squeeze in this event anyway I could.
Fashion Connect is in its seventh year as part of Spring Fashion Week in Melbourne. The event was created by Oscar Calvo (www.oscarcalvo.com.au) to bring together artists, bloggers, editors, designers and more to network, have a great time and celebrate fashion.
My friend was going to be late (fashionably late?) which would mean I would have to rock up alone. It was going to take all the confidence I could muster as I didn’t have time to get to the hairdresser beforehand and had also just run out of make up! I’m glad I did though as I was soon greeted by ladies in lovely outfits, bearing show bags full of goodies.
I then made my way down the Spice Market stairs and was met by the adorable and eccentric photographer Jackson Grant. I was in! What the heck, I say to myself, I think I’ll get my schmooze on! Hang on, what’s that? Free hair and make up products over there in that glamorous corner? OMG! All my problems solved!
The night then took off with drinks, canapés and great entertainment. We all giggled along with MC Aurora Kurth before being totally wowed by gymnast and aerial artist Lilisha Marning as she danced and twisted herself around a hula-hoop hanging from the ceiling! Then, to top things off, Bonnie Anderson performed her hit “Blackout”, which was followed by door prizes galore.
By the end of the evening I had met with photographers, models, booking agencies, advertising management, hairdressers, make up artists, performers and fashion designers. Lucky I had enough room in my purse for all those business cards!
